I was sitting with my phone the other day, mindlessly swiping on one of the dating apps. It is a waste of time, I know this, but I convinced myself to keep going. After what seemed to be the same profile over and over while getting limited results (or at least not the ones I wanted), I started fantasizing about moving to Thailand. My mind went down a rabbit hole and I thought “why do men move to Thailand?
While Thailand is fun it is also somewhat of a sh*t hole. This post here discusses how great Pattaya was to visit. Yes, it is a free-for-all, but it is sometimes lacking the “standards” we in America (or Europe) are used to. Yet so many Westerners I met lived there. Why do men move to Thailand? I believe that the answer is obvious, they get attention and freedom in that country that they do not get in the Western World. It isn’t just about banging a bunch of Thai girls, it is about being treated like someone that has value. Let me dig deeper into the question as to why men move to Thailand.
Yes, it is Cheaper with nicer weather
Certainly, ones money goes a lot further in Thailand than in the United States or Europe. This combined with a nicer climate might fool a lot of people into thinking this is why men move to Thailand. Maybe that is part of it, but there are headaches, with things such as property ownership, more corruption, and lower living standards that outweigh these benefits.
The adage you get what you pay comes to mind. There are some nice areas in Bangkok, but for the most part, the same quality isn’t there. It is true money goes farther. People on a fixed income can live much better given how inexpensive the country is. That can’t explain in its entirety why men move to Thailand. If it was just money and expense, women would be moving there at the same rate. Why move across the world away from your family, as opposed to a cheaper area within your country or a neighboring country? Yes, saving money is part of why men move to Thailand, but it is not the main driver.
Why Men Move to Thailand: Attention
I started off this post talking about my frustrations with dating apps. Women whose league I am so far out of that they are playing a different sport simply ignore me on there. I am in good shape, make good money, clearly funny as hell, and modest, yet I feel as if I am picking up scraps. What chance does the average divorced 55-year-old man have?
Thailand is a different animal. When I walked out of the hotel and was mobbed by women It was euphoric. Yes, most women there want a little financial incentive and that is obvious. That mentality is the same in the Western world. Try being married and tell me that your wife will love and respect you when you are broke. In both countries women milk us for money, The women in Thailand just make us feel better when doing it.
One man had a 30-year-old girlfriend, she owned the bar (so she wasn’t broke) and she got mad at him for taking out the trash. That was HER job and he embarrassed her! This was not a hooker, and he was not Brad pit. I met a number of these men who settled down (or kind of settle down) with these Thai women. The women hold the doors, cut their food etc. I was with the same girl for 13 days (and others of course). She would cut my food and serve me. Before nose ring wearing, 300lb Glenda chimes in. Most of these men treat the women with the same respect. Mutual appreciation, try it some time Glenda!
Compared to American Women
Average men do not get the kind of attention we need from women in the Western world. Men move to Thailand to get the attention not supplied by those women in their countries. Hell, even above average men have to jump through hoops for the most basic ladies. Then after it is all said and done you are still left holding the bag when she changes her mind. It is the way of America. One of the men that I met at the bar was from Boston. He told me he visited his kids, yet after three days he wanted to get the hell out of our country due to the women in the area. Situations like being scoffed at for holding the door for some moose of a woman, I’ll pass.
Married men do not have it any better. I do not think there is a marriage I know where the wife isn’t cutting off the husband. Basically, you can’t cheat, but they won’t sleep with you. “Go to counseling” is always the answer. Counseling will not make a woman attracted to her husband. So many guys I know are rotting away in a bad marriage and getting no attention. Is it a wonder they move to a place where they are mobbed by women? This is why men move to Thailand but that is not all.
Escape The Rat Race
For me there is an additional layer to the country of Thailand. That is there is a level of freedom over there. At times it felt like the wild west, and we do not have to apologize for being men. Escaping the rat race and the anti-male movement in the United States has a huge appeal. Personally, I am sick of feeling like a punching bag. I am sick of feeling trapped in a society where everyone nickels and dimes you, attempting to work you to death. Taking your last drop of blood for payment. Before anyone says anything, I am aware the Thai people will try to get money out of you at every turn. Still, it is literally only nickels and dimes compared to how we are screwed in America.
Our society has become overly burdensome and anti-male. It is bad enough I work 60 hours a week, I then must put up with being called toxic and ignored by women. Having all my money taken by bureaucrats, while labeling us the freest country in the world. Do not even get me started on the divorce process.
Thailand had a sense of freedom. It was like the donkey scene from Pinocchio. Yes, there are rules and laws, but you aren’t being judged for everything you say and do. You can flirt with women nonstop and not get accused of being toxic. Plus, it is still so cheap for us that one can step out of the rat race and live their lives.
Thailand isn’t Perfect.
I talk about moving to Thailand like it is a paradise, and for some it is. Still the country is not without its flaws. First, there are scammers everywhere. Once you know them you can keep your eyes peeled for them. Additionally, it is pretty poor. You really need to come with money as opposed to try to make earn over in that country. Lastly, there is a lower moral standard throughout the country. Maybe that is what appeals to you, but certain people take it too far. I am sure there are a lot more downsides to moving there, I didn’t want to paint it like a perfect picture. Still, despite the drawbacks, we are treated like men, unlike the way American women treat us.
Conclusion: Why Men Move to Thailand
I still live in America, but I would be lying if I didn’t say I thought about what it would take to move to Thailand. It is like I am two people at times. One still lives with this fantasy of finding a person here and settling down. The other wants to spend his last 30 good years eating street food, training Muay Thai, and sleeping with hookers… just being honest. It shouldn’t be this way, but this is the hand they dealt us.
